Trekking in Ladakh

Trekking in Ladakh is a very adventurous feat. Several people from around the world come here to experience the thrill, chill and the fantastic surroundings.

But a lot has to be kept in mind before setting out on a trip to this land of many passes. If you are a novice, Ladakh is surely a very trying experience. If you love adventure, there is no place like Ladakh. Just a few things to take care of before, on and after the trip and you are good to go.

The average temperatures in Ladakh are extremely low to moderate. In summers you can expect warm weather up to 28 to 30 degrees.

In winters there is heavy snowfall all around and the weathers can become absolutely unbearable. The temperature dip down to -20 degrees.

July to September is the time when the passes are all open. The snow begins to melt from the Himalayas and the routes become accessible. This is the time when the hotels, the restaurants, porters, guides and other essentials are ready to provide their services. On other time  of the year, especially in winters it becomes impossible to arrange for any of these.

There are several trek itineraries that can be followed if you come here. Some of the most popular ones are Lamayuru - Alchi, Nubra Valley trek, Indus Valley Trek, Hemis - Thikse Trek, Lamayuru - Padam trek etc. They all have variant difficulty levels, different skill set requirements and different flavour.

While you trek in this place, carry the most essential things which are warm clothes, sleeping bag, camera, sunscreen, boots, etc. If you like you can take medications, first aid kit to be prepared in case of emergencies. Several people take flu injections, vaccines if they feel the need.

In Ladakh, give yourself time to acclimatise. Sudden drop in the weather generally results in Asthama attack or even inflation of the lungs. People experience severe headaches, cramps, pain in the bones due to dehydration at such heights. Prepare in advance for all of this. Exercise, build you stamina and research about your destination well in advance and try to prepare for you as much as possible.

If you do the above mentioned things, you will definitely have a great time trekking in this region. Ladakh is such an addictive place; it is difficult not to get attached. Be here, experience it and relish for the rest of your life.
